I don’t like spending money on something I can make like the hydrangea wreath. Don’t you agree? Many people enjoy creating things with what they already have. That’s sustainable!
The wreath(above) costs nothing, and it’s a simple yet excellent gift for someone special.
In this article, I will show you how to make a beautiful hydrangea wreath.

What you need
- wreath base (bean vines)
- garden/ikebana shear
- dried hydrangeas
How to make a hydrangea wreath
First of all, Gather the materials and tools listed above. If the stems of the hydrangeas are too long, cut them down to 10~15cm (roughly 5 inches).
Secondly, start filling the wreath with the flowers. To secure the hydrangeas, weave the stems through the wreath base.
What you need to do is make sure the stems go through small gaps between the vines. Since the stems are dry and fragile, you need to be extra careful. (Yes, I did break a couple of stems.) Repeat the process until the whole wreath is covered with flowers!

Thirdly, look at the balance of flowers on the wreath. If you have loose space in between them, add extra flowers. I had to add two extra hydrangeas (the beige ones) from previous years.

Finally, trim down the stems (sticking out on the back), so the wreath can sit flat.
Tips: As an experiment, I loosely placed the hydrangeas on the wreath. Then I started filling the gaps. In my opinion, the tightly fitted one looked way better than the loose one.
On top of that, I pulled the stems from the back, so each flower got a compact look.
What do you think of the result?
Mission Accomplished!

What do you think of making the hydrangea wreath? Like the sustainable Christmas wreath, I spent $0 on this as well.
Although it’s easy to make, it requires your time & love. Either you grow your own hydrangea in a garden or ask someone who has a couple. Then dry them in Autumn. Unless you already have a wreath base, you need to create one.
Don’t worry, they are all simple D.I.Y. craft ideas so don’t sweat it! I find them to be somewhat therapeutic.
