It’s time to create one of a kind vase! Many people start new careers in spring, and my colleague was one of them.

I enjoyed her company, especially our lunchtimes filled with laughter! So, I wanted to make something special for her.

In this tutorial, I’ll share How to Create One of a Kind Vase as a thank you gift.

What you need

things for a vase made out of twig
items for a unique vase
  • sticks & twigs (just pruned my apple tree!)
  • gardening shear/ikebana shear
  • glass jar (remove the label and wash)
  • natural materials for tying
  • glue gun

How to create one of a kind vase

Step 1: Measure & Cut

First, take one stick/twig and place it next to the glass jar. Make sure the stick is a bit longer than the height of the jar. Once you know the height, cut it. Using the first piece as a reference, cut all the sticks/twigs into the same length.

Step 2: Glue

Next, plug in the glue gun. When it’s ready, start gluing the sticks/twigs. What you need to do is apply the glue on 2 aligned spots: roughly 3cm from the top & bottom of the jar. As soon as you rest your glue gun, place a stick on the jar and press it down.

Since sticks are not straight, so rotate them until two spots are attached to the glue.  Add more glue if you need to. Just keep gluing the sticks until the jar is covered.

Step 3: Tie & Arrange to complete the one of a kind vase

When the sticks cover the jar, choose a natural material like raffia to tie. It gives the jar a complete look, but it also secures the sticks by holding them together.

Finally, go outside and harvest some seasonal flowers and greens for an arrangement. When you make a flower arrangement, greens are as important as flowers. Like what you see in nature, the greens make flowers stand out!

Mission Accomplished!

What do you think of the vase? When I found out about my colleague’s new endeavour, I thought about a meaningful gift to create. Since she loves going for a hike, I knew I wanted to work with natural materials.

She was also like a cheerful flower at work who welcomed others, especially during Covid. So I wanted to show my gratitude for the flowers I had in my garden.

Creating the ‘One of a Kind Vase’ is so simple, yet meaningful for both people giving & receiving. The best part is it’s sustainable!

Do you have someone you want to express your gratitude towards? Now you know what to do!
